June 1, 2009 UPDATE: REGISTRATION FOR THIS RACE IS CLOSED. However, if you're already registered for the race please join us on this trip. You could also join us if you want to just enjoy the post race activities and the festival events.
This is a beautiful six mile race on the beach in Santa Cruz.
We can do this trip as a one day bus trip or as a Group Camping Trip and stay and Henry Cowell State Park. You could also make your own reservations at a local hotel as well.
If you want to go on this trip, let me know your preference to 2-3 night group camping trip or one day bus trip. The time that appears above is race start time, we'd probably have to leave about 4:30 am to get to this location by race time. RSVP "Yes" or "Maybe" now if you think you want to participate in this race.
YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THE RACE YOURSELF. Registration for this race opens on April, 1, 2009, and I think it fills very fast. We will also need to reserve campgroups soon because they fill up very fast too. The race website is: http://www.wharftowha.... Here is the race description from the website:
"Starting at the Santa Cruz Wharf at 8:30am, the race opens with a dash down Beach Street, passing the Ferris Wheel, roller coaster and merry-go-round of the world famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Runners then cross the San Lorenzo Bridge and loop around the Yacht Harbor to Twin Lakes Beach. Turning inland the course winds through Schwann Lake Wildlife Sanctuary before breaking back to the ocean bluffs at Pleasure Point. From there the way wanders through quaint seaside neighborhoods before dipping down to a festive finish at the Capitola Wharf.
The six-mile race route is lined with a virtual gauntlet of entertainment...singers, dancers, clowns and jugglers... bands of every stripe...pep...dance...classical...raging sixties...surf...heavy metal...pop...jazz ...mariachi...percussion...bagpipes...more than forty groups in all. The race has more entertainment per mile than any other event of its kind in the world.....firing the runners and fueling the festive throngs of spectators along the way."
IMPORTANT INFORMATION IF WE RESERVE A BUS:
If we reserve a bus, but don't get 22 people to ride, then you will need to provide your own transportation or carpool to the race. Updates will be availabe as we get closer to race date.
I have a Wharf to Wharf bib (sorry it's not gold) and chip that I can't use, my knee is giving me problems. I'm leaving for Santa Cruz now, if someone wants to buy my race packet from me (minus the shirt) it's available for $30 and I can give it to you at Santa Cruz. Call me on my cell at 530.400.7449
Thanks Nancy for updating my RSVP. I will be driving down and staying with friends but definitely want to connect with the other RATS before and after the race...will need info how to find everyone. -Jan
